Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never known about it may mistake it for an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She wanted to become professional, however due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inches tall. After I became too big for my male partners I stopped. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her teacher from high school was what pushed her into the right direction. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in the school's production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
